Laundry is a pain. It’s one of the most hated household chores and it’s not hard to see why since it typically seems like a never-ending cycle. What’s a person to do? Incorporating these life hacks will make things so much easier and turn laundry day into a breeze!
To start, do separate loads for each person. If it’s just you, then congrats you’ve already accomplished this step! But, chances are, you’re living in a multi-person household where laundry piles up. One of the more time-consuming parts of laundry is separating out everyone’s clothes once they’ve come out of the basket. Give each member of your family their own laundry basket and stick to doing a load per person though and you’ve automatically saved yourself some time.
Next, try turning all clothes right side out before folding. It may seem like doing this to all the clothing at once vs. doing each item at a time won’t result in a difference in how long it takes to fold, but surprisingly people have halved their laundry folding time just by doing this. It may take awhile to pick up the habit but it’ll be well worth it.
Washing and sorting socks may just be the bane of all laundry existence. Make your life easier by investing in some zippered mesh bags. Have each person in your household stick their socks in a bag, wash, then return to owner. This hack alone will save you loads of time (and loads of lost socks!).
Did you know that washing machines (especially the newer ones) have super tight seals that trap moisture inside after each load of laundry? This can result in mildew and bad smells. Leaving the door to your washing machine open just a crack after each laundry load will solve this problem.
Tired of hanging all your hand washable items up on the shower curtain rod or in other odd places? Install a drying rack or invest in a slim folding rack for the laundry room to solve this issue. Just be sure whatever rack you choose has space for items that need to lay flat to dry (like sweaters).
Finally, one of the simplest things you can do to make your laundry life easier is keep all your laundry items (detergent, dryer sheets, etc) together. Put them all together on a tray or in a basket and you’ll never lose anything again. Plus, this makes it easier to get them all out of the way when it comes time to clean your laundry room.
